Flow and Ebb is a tragicomedy about friendship, grief, and the painful transformation of a way of life that disappears as inevitably as the tide.
For decades, shrimp fishermen Fred and Malte have worked side by side on a small North Sea island. Their days follow steady routines shaped by labor, habit, and a quiet, unspoken bond. When Fred’s wife Martha dies, this fragile balance begins to crumble. Fred withdraws into himself, while Malte struggles to keep both the fishing business—and his friend—afloat.
Unnoticed by Fred, overdue bills pile up, followed by final notices and the threat of their boat being seized. Out of loyalty and helplessness, Malte begins hiding the truth and making decisions on Fred’s behalf. Yet the more he tries to restore order, the clearer it becomes that grief, guilt, and fear cannot be managed away.
